Prunier Liqueur d’ Orange La Lieutenance
The bright orange/new copper penny hue is flawless in the glass; right from the beginning sniffs, the cognac foundation is present and accounted for along succulent scents of orange juice, orange zest, and orange pulp – the aroma grows substantially in the glass as the orange peel presence, in particular, expands and mingles perfectly with the cognac – a terrific liqueur bouquet; the palate entry is extremely zesty, piquant, peppery, spicy, and sublime – the mid-palate makes the tongue glow with spirity warmth as the flavor profile takes the orange zest/peel to the edge of bittersweet, zesty, drop-dead luscious; I’ve finally found the equal of Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge; Kudos

Menorval Tres Vieux Calvados XO
Amber/gold in color-the gray sediment quickly settles in the well of the copia; the first whiffs find unsweetened pear and barely ripe apple aromas – further minutes in the glass add alluring scents that include bread dough, tart apple peal, and apple butter; the palate entry is more tart than sweet and very true to apple flavor – by mid-palate the taste profile turns sap-like, a bit honeyed, and apple pie-like (there’s a trace of yeasty dough presence); the finish is tart, apple-like, and medium-long; not a classic, but refreshing and properly crisp.

“...You may have noticed some of those less familiar bottles and wondered: What does a walnut liqueur from Austria taste like? Is that French orange liqueur any better than Grand Marnier? Or what's behind the mysterious-looking Italian vermouth with the 18th century pedigree? ...”
“Prunier La Lieutenance Liqueur d'Orange. Not only does this make a great gift, but tasting it side by side with Grand Marnier and Cointreau makes it clear that it's time to rethink one's house orange liqueur. A beautiful burnished orange color, the Prunier La Lieutenance has candied orange peel scents and a deep flavor that's a bit more sophisticated and less sweet than the big two. A natural for mixing in cocktails, it's also terrific to sip on its own.”

Prunier XO Tres Vieille Grande Champagne Cognac
Nosing unearths lean, slightly reluctant aromas of old oak, saddle leather and distant plums; air exposure doesn’t compel the bouquet further, so I move on. Palate entry offers tightly wound, focused and gamy flavors of dark toffee, cocoa bean and marzipan; at mid-palate the taste profile goes deeper, offering succulent, mature and integrated flavors of bittersweet chocolate, caramel apple and maple syrup. Finish is long, sweet and hearty.

Prunier 20 Year Old Cognac
The bouquet at first is very shy and elusive; eight minutes of air contact allows a smattering of aromas to peek out if not fully appear and they are peaches, pears and old oak; Palate entry redeems the lackluster bouquet by offering a solid, woody, caramel-like first flavor stage; by mid-palate, bittersweet, astringent flavors of sap, palm oil, resin and tart pear get added to the flavor mix. Aftertaste is medium-long, dry and resiny.

Prunier Family Reserve Grande Champagne Cognac
Opening sniffs detect soft scents of candy cane, mint and vegetation; seven additional minutes of air contact stimulate dessert-like aromas of pear, nectarine and apple crisp. Palate entry is chocolaty and dairy-like, almost creamy: at mid-palate, creamy flavors of dark caramel, toffee, honey and brown sugar shine brightest. Finish is candied, sweet and long.
