Shiraz 2006

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
2005 was a vintage year characterized by cloudless sky’s, yet cool temperatures, extending the ripening period a couple of weeks later than normal. Consequently truly ripe flavors were able to develop, resulting super intense luscious fruit characters in the finished wine.
WINEMAKING
Shiraz seems to do exceptionally well in many parts of Australia. In our secluded spot the characters are more elegant, reminiscent of its European heritage with a touch of white and black pepper adding complexity and regional expression.
Winemaking is designed to complement the vineyards fruit forward style and natural acid balance. Small batch fermentations with selected yeast combined with maturation in the finest French oak Hogsheads. Overall patience and minimal interference through the wines development retains colour and enhances aromatics.
COLOUR Typical lively, Mudgee red.
AROMA Complex nose. Plumy, with a hint of white pepper.
PALATE
Solid ripe plum and cherry characters overlain with complexing, oak derived, vanillin characters, just build and build and build in intensity. The finish is both chewy and spicy which somehow prepares the palate for that next mouthful of prime Angus beef.
